Summary

Individual scholars may apply for project support focused on the history, teaching, religious practice, healing ministry, and institutional experience of a faith tradition. The opportunity is not limited to members of that faith community; applicants from varied academic backgrounds may be considered. No geographic limitation is published. Funding provides time for research, writing, and preparation of work for scholarly audiences.

Proposals should show fairness, independence, research rigor, and potential to clarify academic understanding of the tradition. Projects may address historical, cultural, theological, or institutional questions, provided they have a substantial connection to the subject area. Support is not available for tuition, course assignments, or dissertation research, although graduate students may seek assistance for publication-focused projects. The submission period runs from January through March, with decisions communicated by mid-May. Submissions include a proposal, research plan, timetable, publication prospects, curriculum vitae, writing samples, and references. Financial need and project feasibility are considered.

Grant Overview

Expand to read about this Florida funding opportunity and other eligibility considerations.

Florida's youth leadership development in religious settings faces a unique barrier: the state's vast geography and diverse population density create challenges for mentorship opportunities. With over 1,300 miles between Key West and Pensacola, establishing a network of mentor-mentee relationships requires innovative approaches. Florida's faith communities have a significant presence, with 76% of the population identifying with a particular faith tradition. However, youth engagement remains a concern, with many young people lacking opportunities for leadership development. The funding addresses this barrier by supporting projects that create statewide mentorship programs, leveraging technology to connect mentors and mentees across the state. Eligible applicants include faith organizations, educational institutions, and community groups. Florida's distinct demographic profile, with a high proportion of retirees and a growing Hispanic population, requires tailored approaches to youth leadership development. Unlike neighboring Georgia, Florida's funding prioritizes projects that address the specific needs of its diverse faith communities. ## Who Should Apply in Florida ## Florida-based faith organizations, educational institutions, and community groups are eligible to apply. ## Florida's Faith Community Landscape ## The state's faith communities are diverse, with significant Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish populations. ## Building Capacity for Youth Leadership ## The funding supports projects that build capacity for youth leadership development, including mentorship programs and leadership training.
