Summary

A recurring grant program provides financial support to nonprofit arts organizations and government-funded cultural entities within a specific nine-state region in the southern United States. The grant supports projects that bring artists into neighboring states to engage communities through residencies. Eligible applicants include arts nonprofits, government arts units, and federally recognized tribal communities; fiscal agents are not eligible.

Grants match artist fees dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000, with artist engagements requiring a minimum fee of $4,000 and the smallest grant request set at $2,000. Projects must include a community residency spanning at least three consecutive days, with three public-facing activities totaling no less than four hours of artist engagement. Activities may include performances, workshops, exhibitions, screenings, readings, or discussions, and must involve artists from elsewhere in the region, fostering cross-state cultural exchange.

Eligible disciplines encompass film, traditional arts (such as storytelling, music, dance, and visual crafts), visual arts, performing arts, and literary arts. Projects may be delivered in-person, virtually, or as a hybrid, and must be accessible and marketed to the general public. Attention to accessibility and inclusive programming is encouraged to broaden community impact.

Applications undergo competitive review, assessing artistic merit, organizational capacity, and community relevance. Only one application per organization is allowed annually, and past recipients from similar programs are ineligible for this cycle. Funds may only cover artist fees; other costs like venue rental, indirect expenses, or travel are not supported. The program emphasizes meaningful, engaging artist-community collaborations aimed at enriching cultural life across the region.

This grant opportunity allows arts organizations to bring external creative voices into their communities, fostering cross-border exchanges, enhancing local cultural programming, and supporting public access to diverse art forms—all while reinforcing organizational capacity and audience engagement.
